Chinese painting

中国画
My painting, peony with poem

Chinese paintings are one of the most famous traditonal manufacts of this country. Nowadays thei are made with the same ancient techniques, using a pencil (毛笔,mao2bi3, literalli "the furred pen"), ink (墨水,mo4shui3), organic colors (彩色, cai3se4),and xuan paper (宣纸,xuan1zhi3).

The most common subjects in chinese painting are flowers, animals, landscapes and portraits.
FLOWERS: the most painted flowers in china are cherry blossoms, peonies, orchids and bamboo, which is really not a flowers but is included in this group anyway.
Cherry blossoms
ANIMALS: birds in particular, but also dragons, pandas and insects, it was one of the most famous chinese painters 齐白石 (qi2bai2shi2) who mastered the technique of painting inssects in a very detailed way
Qibaishi, ladybirds
LANDSCAPES: mountains, fog, lakes, pagodas, temples... such suggestive images! All painted using a very minimalist style and a not so big scale of colors to emphasize the spirituality of the subjects

PORTRAITS: like in feudal societies, portraits subjects are often landlords, landladies or mystical and religious figures. As it happens in european medieval art, human subjects dimensions depends on the subject's social or cultural status and if they are framed by a landscape as, this one prevails on the human figure.
